Connected Realities: Interactive Engagement in WebXR
Hands-on XR: On April 11th, this workshop will demonstrate how VR and AR experiences can be developed and linked across devices.
Anyone who has always wanted to immerse themselves in the world of virtual and augmented reality will have the chance to do so in April: the workshop ‘Connected Realities: Interactive Engagement in WebXR’ focuses on developing immersive XR experiences directly for the browser.
On April 11th 2026, from 1 pm to 5 pm, participants will learn how to create interactive XR scenes using the Unity game engine and then export them as WebXR applications. The highlight: the projects run cross-platform in the browser – with no installation required. This means the applications can be tried out on different devices, such as VR headsets, smartphones or traditional screens.
The second part of the workshop takes an experimental turn. The focus here is on networking multiple devices and influencing XR experiences from the outside. For example, users can intervene in a VR environment in real time via a tablet and alter the experience for others. The aim is to explore new forms of interaction and communication between different devices.
The workshop will be led by Katja Rempel, an XR designer at prefrontal cortex. In addition to her work on interactive VR and AR applications, she also teaches creative coding, augmented reality and embodied interaction at universities and cultural institutions.
No prior knowledge is required. VR headsets will be provided on site; however, participants should bring their own laptop and a smartphone or tablet.
The workshop will take place at Westkreuz / Heilandskirche. Participation costs 20 euros; registration is open until 29 March via email to mailto:xr@kurzsuechtig.de.
